What We're Giving: Rosie

I selfishly hope that the Rosie is my Secret Santa at our Catbird Holiday party because as you can see, this lovely bird certainly knows how to give an especially sparkly gift. ;)

1. My mum loves simplicity. This Plain Gold Chain, $132, is the perfect addition to her entire wardrobe.

2. My sister, Ella, loves quirky jewelry like this dainty little Pinky Club Ring, $175. And I love the idea of inscribing it with something personal.

3. My best friend, Sophia and I had our second piercing done together in Paris last year. One of these Chained to My Heart Earrings, starting at $140, would be perfect for her second ear piercing! Plus, diamond is her birthstone.

4. My best friend's name is Kitty and she likes to pile on delicate, interesting rings. She would especially love that this ring is handmade, making each one unique. Bittersweets NY Cat Ring, $150.

I plan to take a note from Rosie this year and make each of my family members blush over their gorgeous gifts!! Stay tuned to see what the rest of our birds are giving! If you're looking for other gift ideas check out What To Give! xx coco

Famous Lovers; Velvet Brown and The Pie.

This gold and diamond horseshoe ring would have been perfect for baby Dame Elizabeth circa National Velvet, before her tastes got rather, well, grander.

Thanks Lucky!

Hey, Lucky Magazine, we definitely agree that Lulu Organic's Hair Powder is an essential beauty gift! We've been big fans of this pint sized beauty must have for a while now and we definitely plan to gift it to all of our girlfriends this year! (Added bonus: it has a particularly sensational price tag, only $10 for the travel size!!)

Lulu Organics Hair Powder, Travel Size, $10.

For women, not girls!

We look forward to Joanna's Gift Guide each year so we blushed big time when we saw that Rodin Olio Lusso Perfume, $220, landed a spot on Part 1 of her Gift Guide.

We suggest you spoil your mama or your best lady or your sister or really anyone looking to smell sophisticated and a teensy bit sexy this year with this delicious perfume. But as Joanna says, this perfume is strictly for women, not girls. xx coco.

Anatomy of a Stack: It's hard to go wrong with the Ancienne

Inspired by Refinery 29's roundup of "I do!" worthy engagement rings, I selected this little stack to compliment the Ancienne Diamond Ring, $2,840.  It's hard to go wrong with this beauty, so I jazzed it up with two other favorites, the 18k yellow gold Clara Band by Ila & I, $1,590 and Katie Diamond's 18k yellow gold Carina Ruby Band with Diamonds, $2,254.  Colorful and festive, perfect for a holiday "I do!"

-ak

Thanks Refinery29!

It is no secret that this Elisa Solomon Ancienne Diamond Ring, $2,840, is no joke and would make prrrrety much any lady say "I DO" but we were extra excited to see that Refinery29 thinks so, too!

If you're looking to say "I do" check out the rest of our wedding selection here. xx coco

What We're Giving: Elana

We asked our beautiful birds what they plan to gift this year and each gift they so thoughtfully put together was just as adorable as the next! These are Elana's gifts for her ever so secret BFF's.

BFF #1 Seeing as she is one of the sweetest girls on the planet, it makes perfect sense that when it comes to her you can never go wrong with sugar so I will be giving her a bottle of Cardamom-Clove Syrup, $11, to spice up her Eggnog and a matching set of Brooklyn tumblers, $25/each in store, for each of us so we can sip our Eggnog under a blanket while watching Freaks and Geeks for the thousandth time.

BFF #2 I have heard enough ghost stories from this girl to know exactly what she wants - I will be getting her a Tarot Deck by The Wild Unknown, $40, + a Tarot Deck Candle, $12, and I will be be fully expecting a cozy (and creepy) winter full of invitations to tarot readings + séances at her house.

BFF #3 I feel confident that she will give the Salut! Flask, $22, a loving home in her pocket and because I am a responsible friend, I'm also giving her a Compass Keychain, $8, just to make sure she always finds her way home after the party.

Stay tuned to see what the rest of our birds are gifting! If you're looking for other gift ideas check out What To Give! xx coco

How We Wear It..BEAUTY!

Rachel, Store Manager: My skin is super dry (and super pale!) and sometimes I feel like my pores are so big they resemble what a black hole would look like if you could see them in space. I adore Robert's Rosewater and every night after I wash my face, I dab a little on some cotton and gently dab it on. It shrinks those black holes, I swear! And it smelly pretty, too!!

Ash, Inventory/Merchandising Manager: I LOVE THIS COLOR! The first time I ever tried it I was at a late night pizza party with some other Catbirdettes :) and I fell in love. It's a deep berry purple that looks almost black on first glance. The good thing about it is that you can use it for an interesting French Mani or a Half-Moon Manicure that won't be too severe. You can also just do one coat if you want it to be slightly lighter. I love it for winter+summer and it's definitely one of my favorite Deborah Lippmann shades - the name is kind of a plus too ;-)!

Leigh, Buyer: Hidden beneath beautiful gold paper, Tocca soap is the most luxurious, creamy bar soap stamped with a mermaid ever created. If you were going to spend a weekend in Saint-Tropez with Brigitte Bardot, an armload of these would make the perfect hostess gift. On the off-chance that BB didn't invite you to be her guest in a time machine back to her early 1960's glory days, I'm sure your real life friends would be quite pleased to be handed a Tocca soap wrapped with a pale blue bow.

Rony, Owner: I have been obsessed with Tocca laundry since 2001! I accidentally gave it to my sister TWICE as a gift. Ooops.
Allison, Graphic Designer: I hand wash each of my scarves in my wash tub sink with Touch - my personal favorite scent.

Leigh, Buyer: Having restored my hair to the texture that I was born with, Rodin Hair Oil is one of my indispensables. I put it on my damp hair every morning, and every once in a while I add 10 drops to my conditioner for a deep, moisturizing treatment, and even with all that, a bottle lasts for a good long while. With my incessant chatter about the stuff I've gotten many of my friends, all with totally different sorts of hair, hooked.

Melissa, Sales Associate: The day after purchasing this soap I came to work, skin fresh, radiant, and smooth, gushing to the girls about my $5 miracle soap and even bought another bar for safe keeping. The most amazing part about this soap is that it's versatile - it doubles as a daily cleanser AND a face mast. I cleanse regularly in the morning and do the mask before bed - it takes 5 minutes tops. It has a rich lather, smells delicately of rosewater, and is super gentle on all skin times (I have oily combination skin, fellow bird, Lizzie, has hypersensitive dry skin and I have successfully converted her). So go forth, kittens, 'case at $5 you've got nothing to lose and only pretty to gain!

Ash, Inventory/Merchandising Manager: I'm absolutely the most forgetful person in the world so it's really nice that Lulu Organics makes a travel size of their Lavender Hair Powder. It's teensy tiny but definitely lasts forever. It's a life saver when your hair is a little too smooth or oily. I even put some in my hair when it's clean just to give it a little extra texture and since cold weather is coming I'll definitely be carrying it around more often so I can save myself from getting hat hair every day.

Correy, Public Relations/Wholesale: As a lady who is pretty loyal to a red mani it took me a minute to warm up to the idea of sparkles AND a royal purple on my finger nails but after weeks of seeing each catbird wearing a DL polish with and without sparkles, in a variation of shades I was totally sold. And let me just say sparkles on your fingernails make you feel like a very, verrrry fancy lady!! (Also, the name totally speaks for itself!)

GIFT SETS!!!!!

I am absolutely crazy about all of our Gift Sets and I cannot get over how each one is cuter than the next. They are making it waaay easier for my holiday shopping this year and I am super into that - plus, there's a perfect one for every member of my family!

I plan to gift the Cosmic Connection Gift Set, $136, to my oldest sister and the Lollipop Guild Gift Set, $46, to my middle sister who's been obsessing over the Sleepy Kittens for months...opps, I hope my sisters don't read this!

Lunch Lady: Personal Space

I DON'T KNOW WHAT THAT IS. I will totally look through your bathroom cabinets every time I'm in there. If you are on your phone- I am asking who you're talking to. If you order a drink- I am taking a sip. It's bad, I know! I try so hard and sometimes I just have to save my friends the stress and eat alone.

Since constantly harassing the people I love can be pretty tiring, when I went to Cafe Colette for a little solo lunch I definitely enjoyed myself. I had the poached salmon salad...or maybe it was tuna, some fries and a much needed coffee. The salad had pickled veggies, potatos and some fried capers on top which were really delicious and kind of took the place of crutons except they were much saltier. And the french fries were amazing as always :-)

Sitting on their little patio and people watching was very relaxing. The staff is really nice too and pretty laid back. I'd have to say the only downside to my date was making eye contact with a stranger while I spilled coffee all over the table. Other than that it was much needed and something I'd recommend everyone do before the holidays hit and we're all forced to move at warp speed.

Oh and then there's this gem that I haven't seen until just now for some reason. Enjoy!

Dream Date: Johanna Burke

Come January, we're moving offices. Our inspiration file has grown fat with images that suggest that rather than working, we will be laid out on divans, in an opium-induced daze, to quote Rony. Whilst we do have an awful lot of fun at work, we also do work very hard at keeping Catbird bright, shiny, and buzzing along. For this week's Dream Date, I've chosen Johanna Burke, a Brooklyn based creator, who makes the most wonderful props and window displays. A lady who lives in an abode full of wonder and magic, and also manages to get her work done? That's our kinda lady. Okay, it's 10:15 pm, and I'm off to write some copy for new product. You see?! I told you we work hard!

I call Time Out!

Time Out New York had the ultimate idea for their Gift Guide - they asked NYC store owners where they were planning to pick up their gifts. By Brooklyn's owner, Gaia, is planning to gift our Catbird Ampersand Rings ($96/each in 14k gold) + Ampersand Earrings ($64/set in sterling silver). We think they make for an extra special personalized gift. She also said she'll be gifting the flirty& affordable prints by Natalie Krim ($48/each).

Queen bee of all things Catbird, Rony, is planning to give the gift of terrariums from one of our favorite neighborhood spots, Sprout Home.

Lady Sybil = Lady Crush

I am going to be 100% honest that I am full blown obsessed with all things happening over there at the the Crawley family estate so when I received a text message saying that the beautiful Jessica Brown Findlay AKA Lady Sybil was casually poking around Catbird with her mother I literally screamed and blushed at the same time.

Word on the Catbirdette street is Lady Sybil is just as sweet as you would assume and she picked up some Catbird essentials: Horseshoe Studs, a Pomelo Blossom Candle, Forever Thine and Fox With Flag cards.

Needless to say, I cannot even wait to see what's to come this upcoming season and according to the countdown on the PBS website we all only have to wait approximately 65 days, 3 hours and 3 minutes to find out ;).

Lunch Lady: The Rockaways

So to all of you in NY and elsewhere who got into it with Sandy this week, we wish you well and hope that you are getting all of the help that you need. And for those of you, like myself who went by pretty unscathed except for the massive amounts of empty calories you probably consumed out of boredom- I hope that you have the time and means to help your less fortunate neighbors.

The Rockaways got hit pretty hard this week and they need all of the help they can get. So, this time instead of spending my boss' dough chowing down on french fries I took my business to the supermarket to snatch up as many non-perishables and canned goods my shoulders could carry. I also wrestled up a fellow Catbirdette, Steph who was really handy when it came to keeping vegetarians in mind because pretty much everything I picked up whether it was soup or pasta sauce had something like "Now with 20% more meat!" slapped on the label.

Seriously weighed down by two Ikea bags and backpacks full of food we headed to The Brooklyn Kitchen at 100 Frost St. where they are currently accepting donations of clothing, cleaning supplies, canned goods, paper plates, cups, gasoline, water etc. and they could really use your help. If not with supplies then possibly with sorting. There's a ton of stuff in that back room that needs to be properly allocated. And being that there were over 100 homes in Breezy Point ruined from the storm I'd say anything you can give would be amazing.

There was even a lovely couple ahead of us who brought an impressive amount of alcohol, although I'm really not sure the fine people at The Meat Hook and Brooklyn Kitchen condone that. You'd have to ask them ;-)

Thanks to Rony for the funds and support, Steph for her freakishly strong shoulders, and The Brooklyn Kitchen for spearheading an awesome way to give back. I for one definitely squander enough man-hours boozing and gallivanting so it was nice to use a little of that time to actually help someone in need.
