May we suggest a very strange brew, for a very strange crew. Burning Barbershop smells like history, and mystery...
A fire broke out in the Curling Bros. barbershop in Westlake, NY in 1891. All the shaving tonics with their spearmint, lime, and vanilla and lavender burned. A charred bottle was found half-full. It smelled like this.
A touch of arson is just the thing for Mr. and Mrs. Addams.

Waiting for Sandy.

We've closed the shop today. We're at our respective homes, waiting for Sandy. I'm typing in bed, with a pile of books and magazines by my side, Tarot Deck candles lit, coffee with cinnamon freshly brewed, Led Zeppelin playing in the other room. I suspect my fellow kittens are engaged in some sort of similar scene.
I feel very lucky to be warm with love and a full belly, purring, content, in the face of a storm. See you soon, friends.

Well, I've said it before and now I will most certainly say it again our bird, Ashley Lyn Clinton, can do it all which is why it was absolutely no surprise to us that she was asked to star as one half of an old school BFF pair for the new The Sea and Cake music video. The video has a perfect Wes Anderson vibe while also portraying a real life Virgin Suicides tale and it made us birds smile all the way through.
From one bird to another, Ash, you take the cake as the cutest vintage-esque music video babe.

What We Love Today: Snake Hand Bracelet

I wore this brass Snake Hand Bracelet all weekend and I highly approve. It makes you feel kinda bad ass, even when you are dressed like a shlub and having a pretty unglamorous weekend. My neighbor took one look and exclaimed uncharacteristically "oh. em. gee.".
I took it off to cook, drive and sleep (it's not the kind of thing you would live in - unlike this puppy), but otherwise, I was feeling pretty pleased with the extra bit of cool it allowed me, as I trudged along in my standard uniform (jeans, clogs, shapeless sweater).

Lydia Deetz vs. Charlotte Flax

Growing up I was wildly obsessed with both Beetlejuice and Mermaids. To this day both Lydia& Charlotte remain two of my most favorite characters overall - soo when Miss Ryder strolled into Catbird yesterday and was asking which Ilia Lip Conditioner fit her best it was almost impossible for us to choose considering her beauty and I'm not biased, promise. Settling on two new colors, Winona walked out ready for fall with Arabian Knights, Blossom Lady (both $24) and a cozy knit hat.

How We Wear It: Rachel

One of our newest kittens, Rachel, has quickly joined the ring stacking club. I first noticed her single teensy D Alphabet Ring, $56 in sterling silver, and I had to immediately ask what it stood for and she quickly replied, it's a secret! But really, she's as cute as they come and is adoringly rocking her boyfriends first initial (aww!). Rachel shows off her left hand above, which has a mixture of metals and texture, just the way we like it!!
On her ring finger she wears a separated stack of First Knuckle Rings in our Classic Hammered First Knuckle Ring, $64, and a Twisted Stacker, $64. She is wearing a Dark and Stormy Ring, $122, on her center finger and is wearing a Classic Hammered First Knuckle Ring, $38 in size 5 and above in sterling silver, with a Twisted Stacker, $74 in size 5 and above, a Threadbare, $44, on the top of her stack and on the first knuckle of her index finger!
Needless to say, our newest kitten's lil' paws fit in puuurfectly. xx coco.

Check these guys out! I'm absolutely crazy about Alice Temperley's pet alpacas, Louis and Rupert. I'd like to hug them and tie big fat velvet bows around their shaggy necks. Along with my imaginary Siamese kitten, ZuZu, Louis and Rupert are my dream dates this week.

Lunch Lady: Alright Alright Alright!

Even the Cookie Monster is eating vegetables - so I guess I'm going to have to bite the bullet and stop having French Fries with every meal. Consider this my Day 1 of trying to eat like a semi-adult, kind of.
I absolutely had leftover mac n' cheese for breakfast BUT for lunch I did a 180 and downed the most amazing smoothie I've ever had in my entire life. For Real. It's the #11 at a magical little place called Tiny Empire and I think they are my favorite new neighbors <3
The smoothie I ordered is made of this stuff --> Kale, Coconut Water, Coconut Meat, Spirulina, Raw Cacao & Dates. It tasted like I was eating a salad and drinking a milkshake at the same time- something I just realized I'm very into. Their Kale Chips I purchased and tried to share were pretty amazing but I kind of ate them all in a heartbeat so they missed out on picture day. Also- alongside they're pre-made juices are containers of Blue Bottle Coffee so you can be healthy and hopped up aaaaall at the same time.
in conclusion-
Dear Tiny Empire,
Thanks for the wake-up call
;-*
AAAAAND
While we're on the subject of letting mother nature take the lead- a few of our Honorary Catbirdettes (and the hottest sister babes you'll ever lay your little eyes on) decided to impress the shit out of everyone and open up a Raw Juice Company of their own. The DROUGHT storefront is located in Plymouth, MI- a little suburb of Detroit and filled to the brim with delicious stuff to battle your bad habits. You can order their raw cold-pressed juice via their website for delivery within the Metro-Detroit area or swing by during store hours.
So if you find yourself in Motor City, go see our best ladies juicing in their Twisted Stackers and First Knuckle Rings!
P.S. James Sisters, if you're reading this- NY can't wait to take you in its lovin' arms.

Friends! I'm so excited to tell you about the new album my husband's band, Oceanographer, released this very morning! We used their song, All That I'm Good For, in the little Catbird video lookbook we did last year. I'm a huge, totally unbiased fan. Really! They make me cry.
I'd love for you to have a listen, and if you're in town, come say hi at their album release show (10 pm, this Saturday, Bowery Electric). I'll be the one in black.

How We Wear It: Steph G!

There are a couple things that make me instantly like you - you have sparkly fingernails, you're a Detroit native, you can play an instrument just to name a few. Well, let me tell you Steph G not only has sparkly finger nails but she's got fancy ring stacks to match, she wears her Detroit gear very proudly AND she's in an all lady band!!!
Steph is the beautiful badass bass player you'll find on stage with the babe filled band, Desert Sharks (listen to them here). She has to wear pieces that won't get in the way of her instrument but clearly that doesn't keep her away from shapes of all sizes - from triangles, to moons, to skulls, she wears each shape with such ease.
Left hand Index finger: Turquoise Baguette, $220. Center Finger: First Knuckle Ring in Yellow Gold, $64. Ring finger: Odette's Klaia Triangle Ring, $110, First Knuckle Ring in Yellow Gold on top, $64. Pinky Ring: Posey Skull Ring, available in store.
Right hand Pinky finger: First Knuckle Ring in Sterling Silver, $28. Ring finger: Braided Band in Sterling Silver, $33, stacked with a Dark Side of The Moon Ring, $122, First Knuckle Ring in Rose Gold, $64. Center finger: The chain of her Finger Bracelet, $42, loops around her finger. Index Finger: First Knuckle Ring in sterling silver, $38 in sizes above 5.

Lunch Lady: Egg on your plate

So I caved and went to Egg. Everyone I work with is always telling me how fantastic this place is but I've been staying away because... well I really just don't like eggs that much. They're very weird. And pretty much the only thing besides cupcakes (don't even ask me why) that I never seem to make properly. Anyway I went and it was actually a really great idea because their food is amazing. I hear their coffee is too but I already had two cups this morning and I wasn't going to push my luck.
I ordered the Duck Hash with hard boiled eggs and LOOK at the cute tiny cups they came in. I had a friend in college whose grandmother gave her a really fancy set of these for her new apartment and like any responsible 18 year olds we just used them to take shots of Rumplemintz or something equally embarrassing. Anyway the cups are really cute but kind of useless actually. I still burned my fingers peeling the eggs :-( The Duck Hash was soooo good though. And Lizzie basically made me promise to have the Candied Bacon which was also a veryvery good idea. Cheese Grits- awesome. Biscuit- amazing. Fig Jam- my favorite favorite favorite part. It's really hard for me to find jams that I like because I'm not that into sweet fruit but it turns out Fig is the way to go.
ALSO they give you Crayola Crayons to use on your tablepaper. I don't like other crayon brands usually because they are too waxy. And I remember even when I was little I thought it was really something special that Crayola goes the extra mile to make the paper almost the exact same color as the crayon itself. So, it was nice of Egg to shell out some dough for the good stuff. They probably knew it would make my day.
THEREFORE! hooray for breakfast. And things that remind me of a time where I didn't have to pay rent or tie my own little shoes.
Today is a good one :-)
<3 Ash
Thanks Lucky!
