Gem Gossip

I was pretty excited to see my own hands (with an uncharacteristic manicure) on Gem Gossip, one of my favorite blogs.

I've been asked twice now, so here is what I am wearing. From left to right:
catbird knuckle ring, satomi kawakita bar ring, bittersweets tiny diamond ring, catbird tiny chain ring, elisa solomon ancienne ring, jacquie aiche finger bracelet, catbird conflict free eternity band, and my own platinum wedding band. Almost all available at www.catbirdnyc.com.

Good for the goose

Right, so it's almost April and we're still hawking calendars, but they're just so gosh-darned beautiful, and only $10. I humbly suggest plucking your favorite feathers and framing them. Done and done.

The Wild Unknown feather calendar, $10

Sneak peek at the renovation!

True fact: the chandelier is from Elizabeth Arden's walk-in closet.
2 AM shot, while we were still working. Note the beautiful Hefty bag.
We re-opened this Saturday! We are feeling so great about the super snazzy new space, and our lovely customers seemed to feel the same way. Please come by and say Hi!

p.s. Mark your calendars: we'll be having a little cocktail party on Tuesday April 12th, from 4 to 7 that will be sponsored by Pernod Absinthe. Details to come.

Pamela Love

I admit it - I have a big fat crush on Pamela Love. I like to think that the horseshoe in the middle of her inspiration board may be from Catbird.

String Theory.

Could these photos possibly rule any more?? Holy Brooklyn high school in the 80's, Batman. And who knew that there is an International String Figure Association?

Little letters, little store, little sale.

Yo, yo, yo! Just a little reminder that we're offering 15% off our silver and gold alphabet studs through Friday. Enter "ALPHA" at checkout. And, speaking of sales, there's a treasure trove of goodies in our basement just waiting for a sunny weekend for our 2nd ever sidewalk sale. Details forthcoming when the sun decides to be forthcoming.

Hello, neighbors

One of the perks of the renovation, aside from the fantastical beautifulness that is going down at 219 Bedford, is the timing. I'm getting married in what feels like any day now, and the store being shut has given me the flexibility to try and clean up after my procrastinating ways. Today, I walked over to The Parlour in Greenpoint for a trial hair and makeup run with Nackie the wonderful. The good vibes were flowing, and I am so pleased to have a local lady beautifying me. I recommend Nackie and The Parlour so very highly. It was like hanging out with your cool, relaxed, funny friend who just happens to be a hair/makeup genius.

And we're off! Me and Rony are heading to New Jersey tomorrow for a super-stealthy mission. Just us and a giant fabric warehouse. F.U.N.

Yayoi reminded me that we can help by donating to the Red Cross. They couldn't make it any easier. You can text REDCROSS to 90999 to make a $10 donation or go to their website and donate any amount.

Cheap & Cheerful

We recently learned the expression "cheap and cheerful" from a lovely Australian customer. It means "costing little money but attractive, pleasant, or enjoyable". It inspired me to create this new section of the website which contains some of our favorite gifty, non-jewelry items - all under $50. You're welcome.

A man in need is a man indeed

We love helping men pick out engagement rings. We listen to some Zep, ask lots of questions, do a lot of listening, model stacks of rings on our fingers, and soothe some nerves. Our philosophy is, if she loves you, she'll love the ring you pick to be a physical representation of the life you have, and the life you will scheme, dream, and grow together. Our job is to help you tap into everything you know about your beautiful girl; the answer to the "which ring?" question is already there, we just need to help you find it.

I helped Jack put together an amazing Katrina LaPenne Old World ring a few months ago. He just posted this cartoon on our Facebook page, featuring the presentation of said ring, and it made us smile so.

Dear Maira Kalman,

My love for Maira Kalman is well documented. I almost wept when I missed her at my local bookstore. I really had to control myself when we happened upon her new line of cards. Play it cool Rony...play it cool. (I totally did NOT play it cool.) Now they are here for us all to amuse ourselves and enjoy.

The above is my favorite, although I must disagree. I love a Deluxe Grilled Cheese.

Maira Kalman Cards, $4.95 (in store and on line)

Candle Loyalty Card

Look what we came up with for those of you with addictive personalities. (Finally it pays off!)
In store only. Catbird Candles, $32

For VĂ©ra, love Vladimir

So very pleased to share with you the newest piece in my collection, a big beautiful bronze butterfly, cast from a brooch that belonged to my grandmother, Nana Hannah.

Jezebel bronze butterfly necklace on brass chain, $220

This guy really grooves.

Dear Rainy Days, thanks for coming around. You're just right for watching this.

This girl really grooves.

Dear Spring, we've been waiting very patiently. The teasing is starting to sting.

The bride wore black (boots)

Satomi Kawakita is so dear to us, and her love story is the best we've heard in a long time. Since it's her love story, we won't divulge the details, but we're certain that her husband is the finest of men. Satomi designed the dress herself and her friends made it. She told us that she hasn't had time to make a wedding ring for herself; she's too busy making rings for our lovestruck customers! That little dude on the bottom is just the best- I can only imagine the face he made when the groom kissed the bride. Eww, they're smooching, gross!

Our First Giveaway Contest Thingy: WINNER!

We promised to give away a pair of our silver alphabet studs when we reached 700 "likes" on Facebook, so Lauren S., step right up and claim your prize! Thanks for playing, kittens, and stay tuned for next time.
