I've spied Alexa Chung around our fair neighborhood, looking like a coltish gamine. It's a real enviable mélange she has mastered. She's partnered with my heroes over at PBS to create a show called "Thrift America." It's enough to make me figure out how to work my danged television.
Back in stock, floaty as ever.

These glass encased feathers (how do they DO that!?) were enormously popular last year. This year, to minimize bloodshed, we got more in, and we got them early. But don't let those words lull you to sleep. Act fast - they will be gone soon. $9-19

All in green went my love riding

All in green went my love riding
on a great horse of gold
into the silver dawn.
four lean hounds crouched low and smiling
the merry deer ran before.
Fleeter be they than dappled dreams
the swift sweet deer
the red rare deer.
Four red roebuck at a white water
the cruel bugle sang before.
Horn at hip went my love riding
riding the echo down
into the silver dawn.
four lean hounds crouched low and smiling
the level meadows ran before.
Softer be they than slippered sleep
the lean lithe deer
the fleet flown deer.
Four fleet does at a gold valley
the famished arrow sang before.
Bow at belt went my love riding
riding the mountain down
into the silver dawn.
four lean hounds crouched low and smiling
the sheer peaks ran before.
Paler be they than daunting death
the sleek slim deer
the tall tense deer.
Four tell stags at a green mountain
the lucky hunter sang before.
All in green went my love riding
on a great horse of gold
into the silver dawn.
four lean hounds crouched low and smiling
my heart fell dead before.

Say that three times fast: brass bird box, brass bird box, brass bird box. We're awfully fond of this little fellow and he looks extra dashing when we gift wrap him with a fat silk bow around his little belly. Only useless if you consider charm and personality unnecessary extravagances.

Because we are a bunch spoiled by the goodness of our jewelers, all Catbirds are now in possession of a piece from J. Lingnau's good as gold Thanksgiving package. I chose the silver snake necklace with a diamond in the head, to go with my St Kilda snake engagement ring. Joanna, we are sparkling with your bounty, and it is our collective pleasure to sell the work of such a good soul. Which really goes for all our jewelers. As much as we love twinkling beauties, we love twinkling hearts even more.

I'm particularly fond of draping this little fellow under my ubiquitous vintage fur collar, with his hind legs popping out of one end, and his head the other. Quite the look. I recommend it. We've got Amy's elephant, and a zebra, too. Pick your poison.

Shari Lind called.

So. Shari Lind called the store today. She told us she was misquoted in The Times and was kidding about Dunkin' Donuts and Food Emporium, etc. Shari, that really sucks. I have been misquoted, (never so grossly - but I recall Lucky quoting me as saying something was "totally rock n' roll", which I would never say). It's a horrible feeling - I'm so sorry for contributing to it. Thanks for letting us know.
(Seriously though, I could use a Bank of America.)

Please note: Shari Lind called and told us she'd been misquoted. See here.
"Shari Lind, who maneuvered a baby stroller occupied by her son Sawyer out the doors of Duane Reade, said she was elated by the chain’s presence. “Please, can you bring in Dunkin’ Donuts too,” she said. “I also want a Bank of America.”
A newcomer to Williamsburg from Manhattan, Ms. Lind said she found the neighborhood to be very inconvenient. Many of the chic stores refuse to take credit cards. And, she said, the quaint gourmet coffee shops charge too much. She said she sent an e-mail to Food Emporium imploring the company to open a supermarket in Williamsburg."
From today's NY Times. This article made me SEETHE. Also of note: some Duane Readers came by with a Welcome Us to the Hood gift basket for us Catbirders, which we politely declined.
Btw, Rachel Parker of North Side Pharmacy, quoted in the above article, is the worlds greatest multi-lingual (English, Polish and Spanish) pharmacist who I have seen bend over backwards to help customers, including myself, in a pinch. Shari Lind, I am sure the Extremely Convenient UWS is mourning your loss. I suggest a hasty retreat before the locals get their pitchforks.

Tiffany bought a bar of Saipua cedarwood soap for her fiancé. She really wanted one of the ebony cocktail rings that Leah brought us back from India, but Tiffany is nice, so she bought soap for Mitch instead. I told her she should have bought Mitch the ring, and maybe since he's nice, he'd let her borrow it.

Evidence: a stormy blue, dark witch ring suited for this mystery girl. We're not saying who she is, but she's been known to have gone bananas for the offerings of a certain mystery store at 219 Bedford Avenue. I'll leave it to you to put the pieces of this puzzle together.

I've learned a new word, via my favorite online anecdotalist, Lauren Cerand. We've been known to treat our signature tote bags as lagniappe, though that shouldn't stop you from buying 1, 2, or ten. They make a great souvenir.
