Look what Rony's gone and done. She's made the prettiest gift certificate. So pretty, you might be hard-pressed to turn it in for jewels. Don't worry, silly. We'll write void on it real little, and you can keep it and get your jewel fix, too.

I'm such a grouch about Halloween. I really really don't like wearing costumes. And, sadly, I am way too literal to wear the above. What if someone asked me what I was - what would I say!!? A frothy, ghost bat?
It may be time to reconsider.

Thanks to White Lightning, I've been doing a new little thing at home: Spicy Lemonade, capital letters very much intended. Here's how it's done: squeeze 6 or 7 lemons (strained!) into a pitcher, add finely minced/chopped/grated jalapeño (1/2 to 3/4 depending on your hot! pleasure level) and small knob of ginger, a torn handful of basil, a squeeze of honey or sugar or agave, fill pitcher with water, serve ice-cold. Drink it straight or top with alcohol when necessary. Ha cha cha. Our new friend Spicy Lemonade is sure to put a spring in your step. Forgive me, I binged on Mad Men this weekend and now all the world's a slogan.

Luckyday Kitchen!

The beautiful Francina chopping shallots in her tiny Luckyday kitchen. |
We made mulled cider soda with a cardamom & sugar rim - holy cow was this fantastic. |
The makings of an delicious salad: apples & celery root (which makes me think of Pan's Labyrinth). |
There's me in a Utility Canvas apron, contemplating watercress. |
This past Sunday I was lucky enough to go to a supper club/cooking class at Francina Stewart's tiny and adorable Fort Greene apartment. We watched and helped and gaped as she whipped up an amazing meal from scratch. Quail stuffed with Hen of the Woods mushrooms are WAAAY out this girl's comfort zone, but today I found myself eyeing them in the market with a new confidence.
You should get on Francina's website, get on her email list, and go!! Stumped on what to get your friend for her birthday? Take her!! See more pics of the dinner here.
Here is the All About Apples menu that we cooked and ate. Lucky day indeed!

We were so excited to get Satomi Kawakita's rings in the store, we were marking off the days in the calendar. Then, she turns up to drop off our order with her fingers looking like such. Suffice it to say, we are officially in love with Satomi.

Continuing in the bigger, better vein; while Rony covers her fingers, I'm looking to do up my ears. I'm particularly vain about my single pointy elf ear.

I own a jewelry store and I wear the most minimal jewelry. A tiny band here, a delicate necklace there. YAWN. This will now end. I think that the stacking will begin... now. Watch out, Liberace.

In each of these bitsy boxes is a rosecut diamond bursting with its own world view. Katrina LaPenne likes to make up these boxes for customers who are interested in their very own Old World ring. I bet she'd like to make a little box for you- come, peruse, see the sights. The sights are real pretty at 219 Bedford Ave.

It's true I might be partial to this Mystery Customer for her love of Jezebel, but I think that is a sidenote to her general demeanor of grace coupled with buoyant enthusiasm for things such as St. Kilda snakes and poesy rings. I forced Claire to snap a shot of Mystery Customer's fingers, cause, just Look will you! All antique with the exception of one sneaky Barney's purchase tucked in there. Can you find it? She promised to wear pieces from her collection of mourning jewelry next time she comes around. I'll be waiting.
