stormy weather.

Brooklyn sure was stormy this weekend. Look at this amazing picture taken from Governor's Island. Courtesy of Brit in Brooklyn.

Here are some of the aforementioned snakes from Katrina LaPenne.

feathered friends.

I am on the fence when it comes to feathered headgear. I see it on people and think it looks amazing. When I put it on I look like I'm trying too hard. Or like a showgirl who has lost her way. That said, I still think I fall on the plus side. Done right they are just too great. You? (see poll)

jean pool.

Did you know that we are JEAN-iuses? For real. We take our jeans super seriously. We do not fall prey to stupid trends (only ones that make at least a little sense), and we spend a LOT of time and effort stocking styles, sizes and washes that will make you happy.

We tend to stay away from a lot of fading, sanding, whiskering and deliberate holes and rips and veer more towards clean washes. Low rises are sort of at the bottom of the list (although hard to avoid) but we stock as many mid and high rises as we can. And - and this is important here folks - we order FULL SIZE RUNS. Meaning we always get 29s, 30s, 31s and sometimes 32s when we can. We sell out of these sizes fast but we always order them!

When we go to showrooms we don't just get what the reps tell us are their "number ones". We inspect, feel, try on and really think about YOU - coming into the store looking for the perfect jeans. The shop is small - but even if it wasn't, there is no need to overwhelm you with all the choices out there in the world. We edit it for you. Only the best. The coolest. Cuz what's better than the perfect pair of jeans?

Come in and pick our brains. We're ready.

Some denim lines we carry: found, j.brand, deener, del forte, wrangler, jordache, level99, blank, odyn, and coming soon, corpus.

spidey sense

I am not afraid of spiders. Ok, maybe big, thick-legged, hairy ones, but generally they are not on my list of fears. (Worms are another story.) I am in charge of them in my house and I always try not to kill them.

I love Rocky Fiore's mounted webs so much. They're one of my favorite things I have ever carried in the stores. He so clearly has a crazy love for what he does - a real spider nerd. (He calls his gig Whirled Wide Webs! Pretty nerdy. In the best way. No offense.)

Each web is carefully sought out, the spider is never harmed, and they're mounted in a special way that he devised after years of trial and error. And there are details about the species of spider on the back of the plates, for aspiring spider nerds. I've spoken to him and he views the seasons in terms of spider webs.

His work is sublime - the pictures don't do them justice. (available at the bedford location)

Katrina LaPenne

I get a trabillion emails from designers showing me what they are up to. There are so many people making great things out there. (Some, not so much. No offense.) One caught my eye the other day and I managed to meet with her. Her jewels are great and she's a local gal, always exciting. Her name, and her line, is Katrina LaPenne and it should be at catbird early next week. Keep your eyes peeled. Stand out pieces include: snakes (I know there are a lot, but these are better than any I've seen) some awesome, small, thorny drop studs, and a great anchor necklace. This girl isn't diggin' through bins in warehouses. She is carvin' it up. A real honest to goodness goldsmith! Oooold timey.

This beautiful claw piece will fill the void that Thorn has left.

blogging. modern times.

And so it begins.

The write side of my brain is rusty.
Bear with me.
